What is VoiceMyThoughts?
VoiceMyThoughts is a Chrome browser extension that adds a microphone icon next to every text field on every website. Click it, speak, and your words are transcribed in real time. Audio is processed in the browser using the on-device Web Speech API and is not transmitted off-device.
Installation & setup
How do I install VoiceMyThoughts?
Open the Chrome Web Store, search for VoiceMyThoughts, and click Add to Chrome. The extension is ready immediately — no browser restart is needed.
Why does the extension need microphone permission?
The extension captures audio from your microphone so Chrome's on-device speech recognition can transcribe it. Without microphone permission, dictation cannot work.
How do I grant or change microphone permission?
On first use, Chrome prompts you to allow microphone access. If you accidentally clicked Block, click the lock icon in the address bar, switch microphone to Allow, and refresh the page. The extension also provides a one-click shortcut to Chrome's site settings.
Supported sites & languages
Which websites does it work on?
Any website with a standard input, textarea, or rich-text editor. This covers email clients, chat apps, AI assistants, social networks, collaborative documents, note-taking tools, and search boxes.
Why don't I see the mic icon on a website?
Refresh the page, focus the text field directly, and confirm the extension is enabled in chrome://extensions/. Some sites use non-standard input components; please let us know the URL.
What languages are supported?
The extension uses the languages supported by Chrome's Web Speech API, which includes English and many other languages. Recognition language follows your Chrome language settings by default.
Does it work in Edge, Brave, or other Chromium browsers?
Yes. VoiceMyThoughts works in Chrome 88+ and most Chromium-based browsers (Brave, Edge) that support the Web Speech API and Chrome extensions.
Privacy & data
Is my voice data recorded or uploaded?
No. Audio is processed in your browser using the on-device Web Speech API. The extension does not record audio files, store audio, or transmit audio to any server.
What data does the extension collect?
Account details (email, name) when you sign up, session tokens stored locally in your browser, and recording session counts used to enforce the Free-plan time limit. See the Privacy Policy for the full list.
Do you sell user data?
No. We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties outside of approved use cases (authentication, payment processing).
Billing & subscription
How much does Premium cost?
Premium is $5.95 per month. It unlocks unlimited recording time per session and priority support. The Free plan is $0 and supports 10-second sessions.
How do I cancel Premium?
Open the extension popup, go to My Account → Subscription, and click Downgrade to Free. You keep Premium access until the end of the current billing period.
I paid but Premium isn't showing up. What do I do?
Close and reopen the extension popup — it re-checks your subscription every time it opens. If Premium still does not appear after a minute, contact support.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes. Within 14 days of purchase, contact us via the contact form for a full refund.
