Dictate emails in your browser

Compose long, well-punctuated emails by speaking directly into any web-based email client.

How do I dictate emails with VoiceMyThoughts?

Open any web-based email client and click into the compose body. The VoiceMyThoughts microphone icon appears next to the field. Click it, speak your email, and the text is inserted with automatic capitalization and punctuation. Use it for the subject line, the body, and even the recipient field — every text input is supported.

Why dictate instead of type?

Most people speak roughly three times faster than they type. For long replies, customer responses, or emails written on a phone-pinned laptop, dictation cuts compose time dramatically and reduces wrist strain. Because the mic icon lives directly in the compose window, there is no copy-paste step and no need to switch to a separate dictation app.

Workflow: a 4-paragraph email in under a minute

  1. Click into the email body.
  2. Click the mic icon that appears next to it.
  3. Speak your message naturally — say "comma" or pause briefly for natural punctuation; the extension applies capitalization and end-of-sentence punctuation automatically.
  4. If your email is longer than 10 seconds, upgrade to Premium for unlimited per-session time, or simply click the mic again to start a new session.
  5. Edit and click send. Done.

Tips for longer emails

Does it work in rich-text editors?

Yes. The extension detects standard inputs, textareas, and rich-text editors that use contenteditable. Most modern web-based email composers fall into the third category. If you find one where the mic icon doesn't appear, send us the URL via the contact form and we'll add support.

Privacy considerations for work email

Audio is processed in your browser using Chrome's on-device Web Speech API. The extension does not record audio, store audio, or transmit audio to any server. The transcribed text is inserted only into the field you are actively dictating into. For sensitive content, this means your audio never leaves your machine.
